Fable III to have no HUD

Peter Molyneux’s confirmed at X10 that there will be no health bar and no HUD in Fable III. The news is what the Lionhead boss feared people would be “pissed” about. He insisted the RPG would be taking cues from recent action titles, with enviromental graphic changes showing you how close you are to being dead. “Look at the screen! It’s completely clean,” said Molyneux, speaking at a presentation of the game, watched by Wired. “Why do we need the fucking health bar,” he further added. Fable III is due out this holiday season for Xbox 360.

PS3 Torne DVR has trophy support

Sony’s released a fact-sheet on its new DVR for Japan, known as Torne, which reveals it’ll get trophy support. One instance of support for the service, would be if you were to watch the final episode of a long-running season of a TV show – you would get a trophy known as “Master of Final Episodes”, according to this week’s Famitsu. No extra details on how trophy support would work for the DVR, were revealed. Wii sales jump by 60% for Q4

Nintendo has confirmed that sales for the Wii has jumped by 60% for Q4, also stating that it was the best-selling home console of last week. The company also said it was pleased with how the black Wii, which was released two weeks ago, was performing at retail, with sales doubling week-on-week. “Of course it would be wrong to attribute all of this to Black Wii as we’re all starting to see a natural peak season uplift on all hardware,” said Nintendo’s Rob Lowe. “But we have been really pleased with Wii’s performance over the last couple of weeks and the new Black Wii has certainly contributed to that. Blizzard says Cataclysm will “shake up” WoW

First LA Noire info from GI revealed

The first pieces of info from LA Noire has been revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer, as promised. Just as revealed back in October, the main character is called Cole Phelps, who is a part of a corrupt LAPD in 1947.

As the game starts, Phelps gets promoted in his department from traffic and vice, before ending up in homicide.

  • Phelps has his own issues to deal with, including some very bad things he did in World War II.
  • As a detective, you have to solve cases through a mixture of investigations, interviews and interrogations. According to the article in GI, when you come across a scene, you won’t find highlighted items sitting in obvious places.
  • Crime scenes are said to look natural and require a deft eye to spot important clues. See a pair of glasses on the ground of a supposed murder scene and you can pick them up, noting details such as the brand etched on the inside of the frame. These little bits of information are jotted down on your notepad, which can be brought up at any time.
  • Team Bondi is using revolutionary technology that could change the way games are made. The new facial motion capturing system sets actors alone in a giant room with cameras all around. In full make-up, the actor delivers their dialogue. Every facial moment is recorded, from the most exaggerate of motions to the slightest twitch of an eye.The dialogue is recorded at this time as well, creating a seamless scene. All of this is then translated into a 3D game landscape with no animators needed. The result? According to GI, it’s a picture-perfect rendering of the actor’s scene.
  • Like Mass Effect, your dialogue choices come from a handful of general options: coax, accuse or force. The way you handle an interview or interrogation is greatly determined by the reactions you get from the suspect. You can also refute testimony by selecting clues from your notebook.

Awesome.

It was revealed last week, after the feature was announced, the game would be a multiplatform affair for PS3 and 360 at least, after previously been thought to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

It’s also thought to be coming to PC as well. No date yet, but Geoff Keighley reckons it’s September.
